When we are restless and anxious we become irritable causing unlikely behavior towards others. Ma. Lourdes “Honey” A. Carandang, a well known Filipino psychologist, expressed that rest is a moral obligation. She gave a talk entitled How to Achieve B.A.L.A.N.C.E. and Prevent Burnout last September 13, 2014 at Club Filipino. Carers from different fields have come together including doctors, nurses, social workers, professors, parents, volunteers and representatives from different organizations. Dra. Honey used the acronym B.A.L.A.N.C.E. to be easily reminded of the key points in caring for ourselves as we care for other.
Life is all about a balancing act. We should know how to balance work and play; being with others and being in alone in solitude; doing and being; caring and being cared for.
We had a wonderful exchange of thoughts after the talk. Choncho, one of the audience left powerful questions to us fellow audience. “Buhay ba ang buhay sa buhay mo? Abala tayo sa hanapbuhay ngunit nahanap nga ba natin ang kahulugan ng buhay?”
Jeannie Goulbourn, founder of the support group Natasha Goulbourn Foundation and Chairperson Etta Rosales of Commision on Human Rights also had an refreshing exchange of views after the talk.
It was a refreshing experience to listen to a talk conducted by Dra. Honey Carandang. I urge you to also attend her talks. She used her years of experience to make the theories of psychology to be more understandable to anyone and use for practical application. We’d like to thank Kythe Foundation for sending us to this very wonderful seminar. We are well taken care of as volunteers for patients with chronic illness. We are encouraging you to also be a Kythe volunteer! Find the balance of taking care of the kids and being taken care of by Kythe.
We have been living in a fast paced life and often times we forget to pause. We are inviting you to take a stop-over and find balance through Expressive Art Meditation.
